Sunday is Pentecost (the 50th day after Easter). It’s a very big deal in the history of Christianity. The Risen Christ was gone from this earth. The disciples were still living in the joy of the resurrection, but not clear about what to do next.
Then God’s Holy Spirit swooped in with power, joy, and purpose for them. On Pentecost. History changed from that moment on, for they were launched into the world, as restoration and expansion agents.
The results continue to ripple and reverberate. Here we are 20 centuries later – linked as partners to Christ followers in west Africa; we support the efforts to rebuild a war-torn nation, and raise a fresh generation of leaders for Sierra Leone.
Pastor Mansaray, who we’ll hear from Sunday, is a spiritual descendent of Jesus’ first disciples. So are we. So we partner together.
“All the believers were one in heart and mind … they gave to anyone as he had need … and the Lord added to their number daily…” – Acts 2: 44-47
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit … – Acts 2: 1-2, 4a (NIV)
