Our building is changing with each passing week. During the cold weather, much of the labour has been indoors, with the removal of walls and fixtures to prepare the way for expanded washrooms, music room, offices and a new Youth Room (at the far east end hall, in the former nursery room).
Outside, excavation for the expansion area is completed, and the footings and foundations are in and the concrete floor poured. External walls will begin to go up later this month.
What else can we expect? Our contractor and architect are taking steps to protect the Organ (the blower, and pipes) from dust and debris, during the removal of walls and roof on both sides of the chapel. Consequently the area over the chapel (where the pipes are located) will be sealed off, and the organ will be out of operation for weeks.
The main worship area in the sanctuary will not be affected until after Easter; also in April and May the parking lot will be dug up for the installation of the pipes for the Geo-Thermal heating and cooling system. The parking lot will be re-paved near the end of the project.
Securing the complete building permit required extra time, and costs, mainly because of new safety codes and a sprinkler system against fire. Nevertheless the contractor expects to finish work before school is out for summer.
While we are not allowed into the building site, we encourage you to be curious, ask questions, and continue to support this project with your prayers, and enthusiasm – but always from a safe distance.
