…about our economy, and the recent headline which said, “Confidence plunges as ‘stagflation’ fear grows”. In Ontario, the chilling combination of inflation, coupled with stagnant growth seems to spook some people.
Now we should always be careful with our money; and church leaders must be prudent and shrewd with congregational finances. Yet we need not be afraid.
“I lift up my eyes to the hill;
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord God,
Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121
Our Trust –Our Faith are ultimately in God.
NOT the value of the loonie, or the TSX composite index, or the price of oil!
Our lives are centered in God, our security comes from God, – not money.
Of course being spiritual does not mean we are careless with our resources. Rather, focusing on God allows us to relax, even as we are being creative, diligent and wise with church finances.
The recent congregational meeting saw the retirement of some great servant-leaders (thanks Tori, Colin, Duncan & Doug). We now welcome newly elected trustees John Lewis and Alan Pearson; And new Board members Bruce Magwood and Sharon Mosher.
Our leadership teams are responsible for the overall guidance and management of our congregational life –including people, programs and property. They pray, discuss, investigate, decide and pray more, always seeking the wonderful guidance and blessing of God’s Holy Spirit.
My hope is that in the year ahead we will focus on making disciples. That will be evidenced by lives that are continually being matured and transformed.
As our discipleship deepens, the spirit of sacrificial generosity will grow, to strengthen our finances; and a culture of volunteerism will develop, energizing our servant teams and programs.
God is in this place –let Jesus’ Spirit reign. Amen
