Sunday, October 12 - We’ve Got the Power

But you are a chosen people, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of
him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. — 1 Peter 2:9

Winston Churchill once said, “Democracy is the worst possible form of government, until you consider the alternatives.” We’re into big elections on both sides of the border. I like our style a little better than down south.
Theirs seems too personal, too single issue, too many conflicting religious opinions. As an example –Republicans defending V.P. candidate Sarah Palin (governor of Alaska), and critiquing Barak Obama note that Obama in earlier years was ‘only a community organizer’ in Chicago’s ghetto. The Democrat’s counter, saying, “Jesus was a community organizer; Pontius Pilate was a governor.” We Canadians vote this Tuesday. If it is true that in a democracy, we get the government we deserve, then we ought to all be involved by thinking, reading, listening, asking, and then praying as we go to the voting booth. I know that we need great government in these next months, and years –to deal with the short term financial crisis, the long term environmental deterioration, the always present needs of the poor, the sick, and many more issues. You have dual citizenship –both Canadian, AND citizenship in the community of Christ, the Kingdom of God. Please vote –and then pray for the new Parliament, the Prime Minister, and all our national leaders. “Thy Kingdom come, on earth…” AMEN.
