Morning … I’m in Winnipeg as you read this, which for me is kind of exciting. As our leadership know, one of the great hopes I have is that our church can be an example and inspiration to others.
Yesterday I gave two major (long!!) addresses to United Church leaders from Winnipeg and southern Manitoba. This morning I’m speaking to Windsor Park United Church about our vision, mission, and the importance of congregations being a Healing Center, a Filling Station and a Launching Pad. Tonight — the Grey Cup with an old college buddy.
The happiest news I’ve had in the last week has been the success of the Music Search Committee. The new Worship
Music Leader for the 11am service will be James Bretzler. He has been serving at Binkley United (Hamilton), while working on his Masters degree (in Music). He expects to begin a PhD program in the fall of 2009, so we hope to have him here for years to come, as he continues his professional development.
The search committee was VERY thorough, having received several resumes, ‘shortlisted’ those for interviews and auditions. James is an accomplished organist and a brilliant pianist. He also shone in his ability to direct vocalists. We believe that our church is a perfect match for him to continue his own spiritual growth (an expressed desire of his), and to lead our 11am worship forward as we seek to be our best with careful and constant renewal and development of this classical, traditional service. We will welcome James to our leadership team on January1st.
Thanks be to God. ORVILLE
