Sunday begins Advent –the month long season leading to Christmas. Advent is a time for several things –preparations, parties & celebrations. AND if nothing else, Advent is a season of waiting.
Today and these next 3 Sundays we’re going to ask questions and think together about waiting: What do we wait for? Who do we wait for? How should we wait?
We as a congregation are experiencing waiting right now. We await the arrival of our new ‘Worship Music Leader’ for the 11a.m. service. James Bretzler will join our staff team on January 1st. We anticipate his coming with hope and joy; until then, we wait.
There have also been months of waiting toward the next steps on the Building Renovations. Many have asked what the progress is. This week our architect confirmed that the detailed blueprints should be finished by the end of January. Between now and then, there will also be planning work done with the geo-thermal experts, and with City Hall.
During February and March the project will go to builders and contractors for bids. The architect then expects that shortly after Easter ( which is April 12th) if all is agreed upon work might begin.
The other side of the project is the financing, and we will carefully examine our situation as we go into the new year, and well before any work is embarked upon. We will wait to see how the value of the dollar, and the shifts in our economy will impact this project. So we wait –with hope, anticipation and calm expectation. God is present in all of our waiting. Thanks be to God.
With love, ORVILLE
