City Wide Prayer and Worship

Here’s an article a member of one of our sister churches wrote after last Sunday evening’s City-Wide Prayer and Praise service.

Hope you find the article inspiring.

Trusting God in Uncertain Times

It was a bitterly cold night, Sunday January 25th, 2009, the wind chill dipping into the minus 20’s.

We arrived at one of our local churches to take part in another of our City Wide Prayer & Worship evenings. The cold was soon forgotten as we were warmly greeted as we walked into an unfamiliar sanctuary only to feel the warm presence of God and His people.

The theme for this night was Trusting God in Uncertain Times. “God is our refuge and strength – a constant help in trouble.” Psalm 46.

The evening started with an awesome worship team leading us in songs of praise. There was an atmosphere of genuine reverence and adoration to our Faithful God. The logistics of the building created a homey and warm feeling with the acoustics bringing out the swell of music. We felt God’s Spirit, with a definite sense of unity.

A young woman gave a stirring monologue as she unloaded the baggage she was carrying before God. She had a load of regret, a load of lost dreams, a load of doubt and fears. We could all relate. It was a stirring dramatization.

Our prayer times were divided into a Time of Confession, Prayer for our Government, Prayer for our Economy and Prayer for our own personal hardships. These prayer times were interspersed with uplifting times of worship.

A paragraph from our bulletin outline read: “Many people are gripped with fear because of wars, catastrophic events, and shifts in our government, economic instability, or personal hardships. When circumstances in our lives seem to be falling apart, we need a firm place to stand. When structures in our country are unstable, we need a refuge. When our world is defined by horrific chaos, we need a hiding place in the midst of the storm. We can confidently put our hope in God during uncertain times. He is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. When nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts His voice and the earth melts….be still and know that I am God. May God strengthen and encourage you as we exalt Him and put our trust in His eternal kingdom plans.”

We left feeling uplifted, unburdened and challenged to carry on and spread the good news that our God is in control and we can indeed trust in Him.
