“The Volunteer Revolution: Unleashing the Power of Everybody”

Brothers, choose seven men from among you … We will turn this responsibility over to them … So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly.
Acts 6:3,7

“Imagine what would happen if people in our world –by the masses – willingly (even joyfully!) served other people in their everyday lives. I believe a volunteer revolution can happen and that the church should set the pace and energetically lead the way.”
Bill Hybels

“We have different gifts… If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.”
Romans 12:6-8

I’VE BEEN THANKING…

… Yes, Thanking. Feeling much gratitude for so many good happenings. I’m finding that the attitude I carry through the day is influenced by what I choose to set my mind on. There is good news and bad news in the media; there are blessings and challenges in all our personal lives. So what am I going to focus on? While not ignoring news reports, I won’t let them control my mindset. I hear about the economic downturn- but 93% of working Canadians have jobs. There is continuing tension in the Middle East, yes; But apartheid is ended in S. Africa, and there is peace in Northern Ireland. So I’ve been Thanking! What a great church we are a part of –what opportunities we all have to get involved with a community of Jesus that is making a difference. I also continue to remind myself that if there is anywhere in the world to be living –even in a world-wide recession, this is it! Our country has great systems in place to protect people from complete devastation; we have educated leaders who are working hard to protect the weakest and most vulnerable, even as they work to restore the financial and business sectors. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else -thank you God. Furthermore –as we each live out a Christ-like lifestyle, we can be relaxed & trusting, going forward with a quiet faith, delighting in the presence of wonderful people around us, and grateful for simple pleasures each day. The grace of Christ be with you all…
