“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.” Mark 14:34-35
…about the events & activities of this Holy Week. This really is the week that changed the world. What happened to Jesus, and what God did through Jesus during these few days changed everything. Today in your mind, scroll back over the scripture stories we have looked at in recent weeks: Jesus’ irate ‘cleansing’ of the Temple, His teachings criticizing people who were religious but missing God, His clear commands to totally love God, and totally love people, and the incident of lavish love poured out onto Jesus by an unashamed devoted follower. All of that and more happened in the few days between the Palm Sunday parade, and the Thursday ‘Last Supper’.
In a few days we will commemorate the last hours of Jesus’ earthly life. Thursday night we will have our own ‘last supper’ –with a communion service here at 7p.m. Then Friday morning we have two opportunities to remember Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross; our 9 a.m. contemporary worship will draw you into a moving experience of the cross, and our classic 11 a.m. service features glorious music from massed choirs, and powerful preaching from Rev. Dr. Michael Knowles of McMaster Divinity College.
Please find a way to deepen your faith and live your spiritual heritage. If you participate in Christ’s journey to the cross, your celebration of the Resurrection on Easter will have a richer meaning for your soul.
Blessings to all… ORVILLE
