Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. — Luke 2: 51,52
… that a financial analyst might actually be correct. So many of us have been stressing over the bottom line of our RSP and investment statements. But Canada AM’s commentator said “just shred all the monthly statements from your investments – don’t even look at them – until NEXT year.” Forget about the markets dive of the last six months, live your life, and wait.
Looks like he might be right. The Toronto Stock Market’s index crossed back up over 10,000 this week. Hasn’t been that high since last November, and a 35% increase in the last three months. Now that doesn’t mean everything’s back to normal –we all have friends and loved ones hoping their job situation will turn around. We want to be cheering for them, and supporting any way we can.
With that acknowledgement, let me repeat something I said at last July’s congregational meeting: “Our Trust, our Faith, are in God. Not the Loonie, or the TSX Composite Index.” Followers of Jesus have a pretty clear mandate from our Lord – to make spiritual values and relationships what we really treasure. Not money.
Friendship with God, and with people, is what makes you rich. So, God bless you and give you peace through every economic era. Amen. ORVILLE
P.S. I’m excited about the next three weeks of sermons. They’ll focus on the power and peace that is available through the Holy Spirit’s pervasive presence. Next Sunday we’ll examine the Ascension of Jesus (… He ascended into heaven). In 30 years ministry I’ve never preached on this great moment. Hope you’re with us. It will be worth it.
