The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
— Acts 10: 45-46
...that it’s far more fun to be team player for Jesus, than to be a Lone Ranger. I’ve just come from a gathering of numerous Burlington church leaders. We meet once a month to pray together and support each other. A great mix of ministers & pastors from the churches you drive by all the time – churches on New St, and Guelph Line, and Mountainside, and Brant. It’s inspiring and fun to hear what they’re doing, and increasingly, what they’re doing together!
Rev. Heather Weaver-Orosz started me thinking about this with something she wrote last week. “I’m still joyously reflecting on this past week when I was at Wycliffe College (Anglican) – I experienced far more than I could ever share in this nugget (including meeting and hearing Wm. Paul Young, author of The Shack), but one of the pieces that struck me was the blessed opportunity to be an ‘outsider’ of sorts, as one of the rare non-Anglicans in the bunch. It was a wonderful reminder that even when things are done differently, ordered differently, said differently … there’s still so much we hold in common.
We proclaim the same Christ, are loved by the same God, empowered by the same Holy Spirit. Sounds pretty basic, I know, but sometimes it’s so easily forgotten.”
Exactly. On this Pentecost Sunday, when people from around the known world were ignited into a common body – despite
language and ethnic and belief diversity – let’s rejoice and relax and support all Jesus’ team, wherever and whoever they are.
One of the guys in the choir brought home the bulletin from a Florida church which says about the many forms of Christianity: “We agree to differ … We resolve to love … We unite to serve.” AMEN.
