I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams … both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.” — Acts 2:17-18
May 31 is Pentecost Sunday – a day that is just as important in the spiritual life of the church as Christmas and Easter. Outside the church it’s not a big deal –nothing like Christmas trees, and Easter chocolate. Maybe that’s because the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the first Christ-followers is a bit too intimidating and mystifying — it “weirds” people out!
Nevertheless it’s a wonderful event to commemorate –and to again use as an opportunity for our own spiritual renewal. So whatever you remember or understand about Pentecost and the Holy Spirit – we’re glad you’re here today. Listen. Learn. Celebrate. Receive. God bless you… ORVILLE
P.S. Rev. Heather Weaver-Orosz is flying solo with you Sunday. Katie is worshipping at Queensway Cathedral, where her husband Michael (Labour Relations Director at Ford) is speaking about ‘Faith in the Workplace’. Orville is at Central United in Port Colborne to celebrate and reconnect with a group of former teens, on the 20th anniversary of their confirmation.
