October 11, 2009 “Our Lack and God’s Love”

This week I got my Thanksgiving Message from ‘Canada’s most listened to radio station’. As I negotiated my way out of Toronto, the announcer declared –“We know that traditionally, most news reports tend to be about BAD events… We’re deliberately including stories that are good news, to give balance to your world.” I thought –“HURRAY! Finally –something to be thankful for.” The truth is there’s good news everywhere. Monday’s ‘Spectator’ reported a research breakthrough at Mac to defeat ‘superbugs’. Tuesday we learned of a Nobel prize winner from Amherst, N.S! On Thursday ‘Canada AM’ did a story on researchers who have isolated and mapped the genes in breast cancer.

I’ve become absolutely convinced that there’s good news around us everyday –in a multitude of ways –miniscule & gargantuan.
Now if they could just clear the QEW traffic through Oakville – that would be great news! – Happy Thanksgiving ORVILLE

P.S. This little poem might seem cheesy to some – but it’s loaded with truth. Enjoy!

A Thankful Heart

Take nothing for granted, for whatever you do
The ‘joy of enjoying’ is lessened for you-
For we rob our own lives much more than we know
When we fail to respond or in any way show
Our thanks for the blessings that daily are ours…
The warmth of the sun, the fragrance of flowers,
The beauty of twilight, the freshness of dawn,
The coolness of dew on a green velvet lawn,
The kind little deeds so thoughtfully done,
The favours of friends and the love that someone
Unselfishly gives us in a myriad of ways,
Expecting no payment and no words of praise-
Oh, great is our loss when we no longer find
A thankful response to things of this kind,
For the Joy Of Enjoying and the Fullness of living
Are found in the heart that is filled with Thanksgiving.Helen Steiner Rice
