And they came to Caper’na-um; and when he was in the house Jesus asked the disciples, “What were you discussing on the way?” But they were silent; for on the way they had discussed with one another who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any one would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” —Mark 9:33-35
… we’re into about 8 months of happy chaos around here. Offices have already moved in to the McMillan room, furniture is out in the lobby, wires are hanging from the ceiling. We’re squeezed for space too –for GraceLand, and coffee hour, and library displays, and more.
Still, if you’ve ever moved, or gone through a home renovation, you remember the feeling of adventure, and the feeling of patient perseverance, knowing that the end result will come soon enough, and life will be normal and good again; maybe even better.
That’s the adventure we’re launching. And already the staff & leaders are getting a sense of flexibility, adapting to the temporary, and anticipating what’s coming. And it kind of feels crazy fun – we’re all in this together, toward that good result. What good result? Bigger washrooms, wider entrances, more classroom and meeting space, a well designed and functional sanctuary for our varieties of worship style.
My thanks to a couple of special volunteers who’ve made the move happen –Ferry’s, Southon’s, Wignall, Glover & more. Thanks guys!
Now we’ll live in happy chaos, and working together and watching as our church goes forward.
Blessings… ORVILLE
P.S. Big celebrations and congratulations for our Don Smith – just named as Burlington’s first ever ‘Philanthropist of the Year’. A fun banquet for Don, (and a fund raiser for the Burlington Community Foundation) is being held Thursday November 5th. The mayor, and many business and community leaders will be there. I want to put together a couple of tables of Wellington Square people. Let me know if you might be interested.
