new to the church?
here’s everything you may need to know to feel at home
4 steps for how to show up to a new church
“I have some questions…”
What’s Sunday like? You can read all about them here.
What about my kids? Kids and youth belong in church and we are so proud of our Youth and Kids programs. Kids and youth on Sundays are encouraged to check out those, but they are always allowed in church (even when they make noise and wander around).
What’s the United Church of Canada? That’s our denomination. It’s the larger organization of churches we are a part of. You can learn more about the UCC here.
What do you believe? Great question. We’re a Jesus-centred church which means we’re affirming and inclusive of everyone, justice and service oriented, and all about connecting with God and learning how to be more human and alive in the world. If you have specific questions, please ask. You can find more about our beliefs and values here.
I’m spiritual, but not really religious. Is that ok? That’s totally ok! We’re a community full of people at different stages in the faith journey and who identify in all kinds of ways. Regardless of any of it, you belong here.
Am I expected to give money? Generosity is a big practice of ours. We encourage everyone who calls WSUC ‘home,’ to give regularly and we offer a variety of ways to do that. But we also understand that’s not always possible, and encourage people to give in other ways like volunteering. If you’re just checking us out, there’s no obligation or expectation to give.
Are you accessible? Yes! We are fully accessible. We have accessible and gender neutral washrooms, as well as places in the sanctuary with extra room designated for wheelchairs and mobility aids.
